3 Reasons to Watch South Carolina vs. Florida
1. Equal Playmakers- With a trip to the SEC championship game on the line the atmosphere will be electric in Gainesville. Both coaches will not hold back and that simply means the ball will be in the players who can change the game. Expect Alshon Jeffery from South Carolina to catch between seven to ten passes versus Florida’s secondary. Marcus Lattimore for South Carolina will touch the ball between twenty to thirty times from a variety formations, with South Carolina hoping to catch a mismatch on a linebacker or safety.
Florida has speed and with out an established quarterback, the SEC championship on the line, the coaches will not want all the pressure on the quarterback’s shoulders. Leave it to the playmakers. Expect Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps to receive ten to twenty touches a piece of the football to match the big play ability of South Carolina.
2. Revenge vs. Redemption
Coach Spurrier has a chance to get a needed win and more importantly some revenge against Urban Meyer. Winning at Florida on a road in a critical game will give Coach Spurrier a chance to demonstrate he can compete in a pressure championship situation especially after poor time management decisions against the Kentucky Wildcats. South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia was excellent against Alabama, but must perform and win on Saturday to go down as a Gamecock legend. Garcia has a chance to get to the SEC championship, which would be a special accomplishment in his junior season.
Coach Meyer has probably done one of his best coaching jobs in his tenure at Florida. Coach Meyer has had to manufacture a running game, repair center-quarterback exchange issues, endure coaching changes, just to be in a position to get back to a SEC championship title game with one win. Three losses at home in one season will not sit well with him nor the fan base. Coach Meyer wants to show the SEC East dominance over the rest of the division will not end soon.
3. Recruiting
The state of Florida is fillled with football talent. Florida Gators will continue to have elite recruiting classes because the state has so many quality players. However, if South Carolina wins this game and Marcus Lattimore has a decent game, expect South Carolina to pull a couple of gems out of the state of Florida to play alongside Marcus Lattimore. A trip to the SEC championship game will have direct implications on recruiting.
South Carolina vs. Florida is a pretty close game on paper. Typically that would mean side with the home team, especially with Coach Meyer on the sideline. However, South Carolina has had the opportunity to watch LSU and Mississippi State go down to Gainesville and get victories at the Swamp this season. Florida is vulnerable. South Carolina is inconsistent. Who will show? With so much pressure on the line, South Carolina vs. Florida is this week’s most entertaining game.
