If Carmelo Anthony wants to compete for a championship, he should not sign an extension unless it’s with the New York Knicks.

Trade talks involving Anthony going to the New Jersey Nets in a three team trade have been circulating the past few days. In the trade, the New Jersey Nets would get Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton and Carmelo Anthony. If the teams come to an agreement and Anthony agrees to sign the extension, the Nets would have the following starting lineup.

PG: Chauncey Billups
SG: Rip Hamilton
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Kris Humphries
C: Brook Lopez

Outside of Brook Lopez and Carmelo Anthony, the future of the New Jersey Nets look grim. Especially with Chauncey Billups (34) and Rip Hamilton (32) on the downside of their careers.

However, if Anthony decides to go to the New York Knicks either via trade or free agency. The Knicks would have the following lineup.

PG: Raymond Felton
SG: Landry Fields
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Ama’re Stoudemire
C: Danilo Gallinari

All in the prime, the team would compete for championships for years to come.
