NFL Rumors: Peyton Manning Seeks New RB

Coming off of neck surgery, it is becoming more important each season for the Colts’ organization to find ways to keep Peyton Manning healthy.  That means Manning will be handing the ball off more or the offensive game plan will feature even more one to three step drops. Joseph Addai has lost a couple of steps and Donald Brown has talent, but questions still surround his ability to be an every down back. Javarris James is still too unproven. Sports Report 360 examines three running backs who the Colts should consider adding to the team.

Ronnie Brown

Ronnie Brown wants to go to a team who has a better shot at making a Superbowl run. He has plenty of productive football left in front of him and could easily being integrated into the offense. He would be the best running back the Colts’ organization has had since Edgerrin James. I think Brown may be an even better football player than he is currently regarded as because of the inconsistent quarterback play of various Dolphins’ quarterbacks during his career there. The Colts should strongly consider adding Ronnie Brown to the team.

Reggie Bush

It is time for Reggie Bush to leave the New Orleans Saints and while he probably never will be an every down back in the NFL, he could really help the Colts’ offense.  Bush has great hands and runs so well in space that he would be a nice addition to the team.  With Bush the Colts’ offense would have more quick throws and more screens, which would help Manning take even less hits.  The Colts should consider adding Reggie Bush to the team because of his big playmaking ability, his ability to help the team score more points and for the excitement he brings to the fans when he gets the ball.

Steve Slaton

Arian Foster and Derek Ward have solidified their place in Houston; however, Steve Slaton deserves an opportunity to resurrect his career. Motivation is a huge key for athletes and Slaton still wants to prove the Texans made a mistake by not giving him more of a chance. Slaton is still a quality running back and would be an upgrade over what the Colts currently have on the roster. I think he could help the Colts continue to dominate the AFC South and get back to making deeper playoff runs. Peyton Manning seems to have a knack for the getting the best out of his teammates and he would do the same thing with Slaton.  Steve Slaton is underrated and off a lot of teams radar right now, but he would be an excellent addition to the Colts.
