Manny and Floyd

The best offensive fighter in the sport Manny Pacquiao versus the best defensive fighter in the sport Floyd Mayweather is a boxing match that most sports fans have a demand and interest in seeing. The two men have a contrast of styles that is sure to lead into an epic war in the squared circle. Let’s examine the tale of the tape.

Defense
While, “Pac Man” certainly is no slouch on defense it certainly is not the best part of his fighting game as he does mind taking a punch or two. “Money May” is the best defensive fighter in the sport and would be determined to land shots based on any mistakes that Pacquiao made while throwing punches. This is the one category that Mayweather clearly has an advantage.

Offense
“Money May” is a good offensive fighter, but is not really big on throwing a lot of punches because that will make him susceptible to taking a lot of punches. Conversely, “Pac Man” is willing to apply pressure to force “Money May” into exchanges where he could end being knocked out. While, “Money May” can use both hands, the better offensive fighter right now between the two is “Pac Man.”

Smarter
“Money May” has great instincts in the ring, but with big back taxes, lawsuits and facing the prospect of realistically ending up jail, sometimes it seems like this is one fighter who is not playing with a full deck.

“Pac Man” has a whole country behind him and most boxing fans love his fighting style. It is pretty clear who the overall smarter fighter is right now.

People’s Champ
“Money May” is the current pound for pound champ in his own mind, but the court of public opinion has never worked that way, which is why right now the people’s champ is “Pac Man” because he really packs a punch.

Fighter Who Could Fight In Any Era
This is a very debatable category, but while “Pac Man” is tough enough he certainly would have more losses in certain eras of boxing. “Money May’s defense allows him to fight in any era, but he certainly would have taken a lot more punishment in the ring.

However, neither of these fighters would have had very much success against the likes of an early Bernard Hopkins, Pernell Whitaker, “Sugar” Ray Leonard or “Sugar” Ray Robinson had they met at any catchweight.

Global Star
“Money May” would love to be bigger and certainly is one of the biggest stars in the sport, but right now “Pac Man” is and will continue to be the biggest boxing star in the world.

The Fight
Well, it tough to know if the fight will ever happen because there is so much ego involved with issues ranging from purse split to drug testing issues. Floyd Mayweather may never understand a 0 in the loss column will not mean much to most boxing fans because today’s fighters only fight a third of amount of times that old school fighters fought.

He is not going to ever get his due unless he fights more. The tale of the tape and hall of fame is going to have a much more favorable opinion of Manny Pacquiao because of the way he handled himself in and out of the squared circle.
