If you think Les Miles won’t be motivated to beat Nick Saban for the second time this season in the BCS National Championship Game, think again. In the famous words of Jerry Maguire, they will be forced to show the “Mad Hatter” the money because he has a lucrative $5.88 million dollar bonus that kicks in with a win.
Miles’ contract includes a bonus clause — if he wins the National Championship — that pays him $1,000 more than the highest paid SEC coach. Currently, the highest paid SEC coach is Nick Saban with a base salary of $4.73 million in 2012.
Miles current base salary is $3,751,000, with the win, his new base salary would be $4,731,000. A raise of $980,000 a year for the remaining six years of his contract
The Superdome will be rocking for what may be the biggest game in the programs history. Another win means an undefeated season, which could very well make this team arguably the greatest in LSU history.
Commenting on the bonus and mind state of the team entering the BCS National Championship against the Alabama Crimson Tide, “Mad Hatter” recently stated, “I’ve kind of always felt like, you know, (the program) was in a tremendous position. Certainly we’re grateful for the position that it’s in. But I never felt that there was a shadow, or something that needed to be done. I’m just letting you know that this football team, irrespective of the coach, deserves to play well in this next game.”
This will be the ultimate chess match between two geniuses in Les Miles and Nick Saban. The world will be watching. Game on!
