Cleveland Indians v/s Baltimore Orioles 08/30/09

With the Cleveland Indians currently leading the American League Central Division at 23-17, Chris Perez is having a tough time understanding that the fans don’t want to be teased with a decent regular season that does not see the ball club enter the postseason.  There has been lot of scrutiny and pressure placed on the closer to perform because if he plays up to his potential, the team may find a way to upset the Detroit Tigers and win the division.

Fairly or unfairly, the Cleveland fans are booing the emotional closer known as “Pure Rage” and the team almost every home game. Will he eventually implode like Carlos Zambrano did in Chicago?  No one knows for sure, but winning eventually cures all.

Commenting on his thoughts on the LeBron James boo treatment by Cleveland fans, Perez recently stated, “I don’t think they have a reason to boo me. I was tired of getting booed at home so I figured I’d better throw some strikes (on Saturday). You can quote that. They booed me against the Mariners when I had two guys on. It feels like I can’t even give up a base runner without people booing me. It’s even worse when there’s only 5,000 in the stands, because then you can hear it. It pisses me off.”

Well, fans in Cleveland are tired of losing in one of the greatest sports towns in the world.  Frustration is starting to reach a boiling point. Cleveland fans have a clear message for Chris Perez, win or develop thicker skin. This will be an ongoing saga that should be fun to watch throughout this baseball season.
