John Calipari: pushing Nerlens Noel to spearhead dynasty
John Calipari does not believe in the old adage that “What goes up, must come down.” In fact, he plans on building a dynasty at Kentucky of one and done players who dominate college basketball and most importantly keep a wide smile on Ashley Judd’s face. The hardest thing to do in college basketball sometimes is to motivate elite players, but Coach Cal is wasting no time trying to make freshman phenom Nerlens Noel become better each day.
Cal is not only pushing Noel to attempt to impact college basketball like Anthony Davis did last season, but he is also constantly bringing up Shabazz Muhammad. The fact that Muhammad did not elect to play with the big man and seems to always steal the headlines from the talented center. While the big man probably won’t outscore Bazz next season, the plan for his development is to prove he is a much more complete player. Noel must demonstrate next season that he can block shots, protect the rim, show great leadership on the floor, steadily develop offensive moves and perform great during important games next season.
Commenting on what he feels he needs to do to be great next season, Noel recently stated, “The only thing I need to do is go in there and think about getting better and doing what I have to do for my team to win games and get to a national championship.”
If Coach Calipari’s motivational tactics work with the big man, not only will the center have more impact on college basketball than Muhammad next season, but the big man will likely spearhead a dynasty in the Bluegrass State for the Wildcat program.
